Self- Advocacy is when people speak up about issues that are important to them.
Devon Link Up supports self-advocacy groups so that people with learning disabilities can meet with their friends and talk.
We talk about anything that people are interested in and sometimes we help other organisations by doing consultation work about health and social care.
Our groups ask people to come and do talks and presentations. We have spoken to lots of different people including the Police and the Dental Nurses and we have also had someone to help us with First Aid.
It is important for people to speak up so that they can say what they want and be confident making choices and decisions. If you don't speak up then people will not know what you want and can't help you.
"You need to speak up so that people know what you want. If they don't know what they want they can't help you to get what you want or need"
